About us

We are a long established (over 100 years!) award winning (Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group – Golden Hare Winners), family run farm which has emphasis on environmental issues.

Situated on the Dengie Peninsular just outside the market town of Maldon, our farm runs from the village of Steeple right down to the Blackwater Estuary. The Blackwater is famous for the Thames Barges which regularly sail and race up and down.

We are a Farm Assured British Beef & Lamb farm (FABBL) ensuring high standards of care and control over our animals.

During the Summer months our farm assured flock of sheep and herd of cattle graze down to banks of the River Blackwater on environmentally sensitive grass and marshland areas. This helps to produce a quality, full flavoured meat.

In Winter, the animals are housed in the barns and fed on home grown products such as rolled barley and hayliage.

Our sheep have their lambs indoors.

Our main aim is produce high quality meat products and to sell to local people.

Reducing food miles and buying locally are of great importance to us.

Supporting British agriculture and the promotion of the countryside are high on our list of priorities. We are members of Dengie Hundred WFU.

Farmers Market

Lamb only – Danbury Farmers Market, Danbury Sports & Social Club, Danbury, Nr Chelmsford, Essex 1^st Saturday in the month 9am –12pm

Burnham Farmers Market, Carnival Hall, Burnham On Crouch, Essex – 3^rd Sunday in the month 9am-12pm

Beef only – Great Garnetts Farmers Market, Barnston, Great Dunmow, Essex – 2^nd Saturday in the month 9am-1pm

Lamb & Beef

Steeple Farmers Market – Steeple Village Hall, The Street, Steeple, Southminster, Essex , - dates as follows : 6 May, 10 June, 8 July 26 August, 30 September 9am – 12pm

In order to reduce food miles and promote local producers such as ourselves, we organise the Steeple Farmers’ Market. This is held in our new village hall, which also benefits as they provide all the refreshments which they obtain from the producers. Producers include lamb and beef from Steeple Gate – (virtually no food miles!), organic vegetables from Sarah Green Organics (about 3 food miles), venison, rabbits, pheasants, pigeons and partridges from Essex Country Game (about 8 food miles), Springstep Goats Milk from Mundon – try the ice cream, it’s fabulous, along with cheese, cream and milk. Pork products from Wicks Farm Manor, along with honey, jams, pickles, garlic & chilli oils, homemade cakes, smoked fish and pate to name just a few.

We take orders for fresh lamb and beef, which can be collected from our farm gate. (Delivery by arrangement only).

We sell everything from one lamb chop to the biggest joint!

We have freshly frozen lamb and beef available from our farm gate all year round

Best Rural Retailer Award - nomination

We have great pleasure in announcing that we have been nominated for the Best Rural Retail Award run by Countryside Alliance. A big thank you to everyone that nominated us and to all our great customers. We were short listed in the eastern regional finals (4^th).
